Harp Music Club
Would you like a little surprise in your inbox once a month ?
Something new to excite your harp taste buds??
Some new music to add to your harp repertoire???
Cost?? $10 (NZ) per month.... for three new pieces of music!!!
The Harp Music Club is an online monthly subscription. You will get three pieces of harp friendly, finger friendly, interesting new music, which has been played and tested to get the best harpiness out of each piece .... and it's delivered to your inbox on the first of each month.
The current subscription is designed to fulfill the needs of the late beginner to intermediate harpist.
There will be one arrangement of a public domain piece of music, one original tune (written by Anna Dunwoodie), and the third piece will be one or other of the latter!! No two months will be the same, and sometimes there might be little bonuses that also come with your subscription! Each month you will also get an audio file (this one is "Bedouin Tents") of the tunes emailed out to you, so you can hear what it sounds like - if it's too fast (or too slow). I recommend you use Speedshifter to move the tempo to where you want it for learning.
If you are a late beginner, there will be music suitable for you to play now, and some to pop away in your collection for learning later as your skills develop.
If you are an early intermediate harpist, there will be easier music (that you will probably be able to polish up very quickly and add to your background repertoire) and another piece that is a bit more challenging.
What level am I??? ♫♫♫♫
This is quite tricky to put into just a few words… sooooooo....
In NZ (Australia, UK and other countries) we love the Trinity College/ABRSM layout of exam grades which give really clear indicators of progressive music, studies, exercises and techniques from initial grade right up to very advanced diploma levels.
So with this in mind, an early beginner would be a grade 1 level – the melody is often in the right hand, straight forward left hand, repeated patterns, not too wider stretches or leaps, not too challenging time and key signatures. For a child, this may be obtainable within 2 years (loosely) from a non-musical start point – faster if they have other musical experience. For an adult this may also be quicker to get from zero to grade one, but remember that each of us is built differently, so no rules fit all of us! Have a look at a free sample to give you an idea of the level.
If you want to hear some of this level music (of all sorts) check out the NZ Harp Performance channel on Youtube – and look at the one more difficult sounding pieces in the Initial/Grade one class.
Late beginner/Early intermediate level is around the Grade 2 or 3 level. The harpist has more confidence on the instrument, is able to cope with more variety, slightly longer pieces, more stretches, bigger chords, and often the accompaniment is becoming more demanding, while the melody line might include more chords and variation. Here is another sample of this level.
Some examples are here on the NZ Harp Performance channel on Youtube – and are labelled as the Grade 2/3 class.
Your free samples (linked above also) are:
Mitt Hjerte Alltid (Brorson)
Bedouin Tents (A Dunwoodie)
While you can pay monthly, you can also pay for a full annual sub.
What now??
* Print off your new music - there is plenty more to follow, so maybe set up a new folder on your computer to pop everything in to on when it arrives in your inbox. It will still be stored in your account online in case you have computer dramas and lose it.
* Please respect the intent with which this music has been purchased. It is for your own personal use (see What can't I do) and if you enjoy it enough to consider sharing with others, please encourage others to sign up. I try to make my living solely through my music and its disheartening when people share my music without paying for it.
* You can manage your subscription as you like (what I like about Gumroad, who run things behind the scenes for me, is that they send you out a warning 48 hours in advance of your next monthly payment - so no surprises on your credit card)
What can’t I do??
* You can’t sell or share the music with others.
* You can’t record it without the express permission of the composer/arranger.
Testimonials
"I highly recommend Anna Dunwoodie's work. Her pieces cover a fun and interesting range of styles and levels for beginners to intermediate lever harpists. Her sight-reading books are also excellent."

I would thoroughly recommend a subscription to Anna Dunwoodie's collections of compositions. She has an in-depth knowledge of a structured range of development skills for the harpist from beginner to advanced level. Anna is able to subtly include these into her arrangements so the fledgling harpist can practise technique almost without noticing it as they are too busy with the joy of playing Anna's melodies and harmonies within the pieces.
Her collections include a wide range of styles from Celtic to world inspired tunes as well as a variety of moods from haunting, expressive to more lively pieces.
As an adult learner myself I have been able to enjoy expanding my repertoire by including Anna's pieces - the Celtic inspired tunes in ' The Land of the Long White Cloud ' series worked really well as duets when my husband played the melody lines on his tin whistle.
Moira Pagan, Australia
‘The work of Anna Dunwoodie is one of the jewels in the crown of the world of the harp and also traditional/celtic music in NZ. Anna’s work deserves to be much more known and celebrated world wide! It has an appeal and is suitable for an audience from all continents but has a special NZ flavour mixed with a firm basis in traditional music from the British Isles. Anna has composed for all levels, and many different harp based combinations. Her experience in teaching and working with pedal and lever harp students alike radiates from the pages of her compositions because everything she writes works so well under the harpist’s fingers. Anna is one of the most enthusiastic, creative and innovative proponents of the harp I know and I am proud to name her as a harp colleague.’
